Faith & Family

Welcome to the Homestead!

We are thrilled to have you here with us! We are a big family building a homestead, raising a small tribe, growing our food (or working on it), cooking from scratch, making things by hand, and learning as we go.

So, here, there is almost always something muddy, unfinished, overgrown, rising on the counter, or being chased across the garden by little hands.

Bringing Life is where we share the useful parts, the beautiful parts, the not-so-beautiful parts, the mistakes worth learning from, and the stories that happen in between.

If you like real homesteading without the polished fairy-tale version, you will feel right at home here!

Around here, food is serious business! From delicious home-cooked pork roast and mashed potatoes to Saturday morning ham and cheese rolls, "easy dinner" gourmet sandwiches, or produce that was just in the garden along with fresh fish from the lake, meals are blended with the perfect seasonings that lead to the common refrain at the table: "Can I have some more, please?"

We certainly can't forget to mention the desserts that have somehow crept onto plates and added some delicous calories to meals from time to time: fresh homemade cinnamon rolls, berry cobblers, pies, cakes, and much more! And the candy at Christmas time? Don't get me started.

While there are many things on the homestead that we are new to and just learning, cooking is not one of them. (Though there is a new recipe in the oven as I type this...) We have been told many times that we should open a restaurant! While that is outside of our plans (at least for now), we are delighted to be able to share some of our favorite recipes and cooking tips with you here!

Come to the Table!

Starting this last year, the garden has become the first successful step towards showing us that our plans really can become a reality, and a very fine teacher that reality is not always what we expected! We grow as much of our own produce as we possibly can filling all the space we can with tasty veggies.

The garden is a great place to practice parenting as you remind your cucumber for the 50th time that it is supposed to be climbing the trellis, not the tomato cage, spend some quality time with the corn figuring out what it needs, propping up the tomatoes... again... and trying to remember that the okra needs your attention too. All that while keeping little bare feet from trampling your newly sprouted cabbages!

Eventually the garden will hold even more importance as it will help provide food for our livestock. Rabbits, pigs, and chickens will be able to enjoy a healthy buffet from time to time.

The garden is a delight. We truly do love the time spent in it and invite you along for the journey! The garden is growing with the same vigor as our family.

Come Grow with Us!

Fishing is a favorite pastime around here, and the pan fried bluegill, bass sandwiches, or fried catfish meals are just as good as the time spent at the lake.

Ham and Cheese Breakfast Rolls? Yes, Please!

...and then there is Tim, seeing the things no one else sees and turning them into beautiful nature photographs.
